Kyutech Conducts Hands-on International PBL Internship for AI and Robotics Talent Development

Update:2026.02.02

Kyushu Institute of Technology was selected for the “Sakura Science Program” sponsored by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST).

From January 18 to January 24, 2026, Kyutech hosted students and faculty members from King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB) and King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL).

During this period, Kyutech implemented a hands-on international internship program aimed at developing AI and robotics talent and promoting sustainable development through International Project-Based Learning (PBL) in the form of hackathon-style training.

Through collaboration among participants with diverse perspectives, the program provided practical learning opportunities in an international PBL environment. Thai and Japanese students formed mixed teams and worked together both online and in person to develop robots. The outcomes of their joint projects were presented at a robot competition held on January 23.

As part of the program, participants visited YASKAWA Electric Corporation’s Yaskawa Mirai-kan and manufacturing facilities, where they observed the latest robotic arm technologies and production lines in which humans and robots work collaboratively. The students showed strong interest in these advanced industrial applications.

In addition, laboratory tours were conducted at Kyutech’s Iizuka Campus and Wakamatsu Campus, focusing on research in the fields of AI and robotics. Through research presentations, Q&A sessions, and discussions, participants gained a deeper understanding of the research environment and methodologies at Japanese universities. These experiences also served as valuable opportunities to enhance their motivation for further study and research activities.

Furthermore, participants were given the opportunity to experience Japanese culture through a tea ceremony held on campus, which proved to be a memorable and enriching experience for all involved.
